Treatment
Dental Implants
A dental implant replaces the root of a missing tooth with a small titanium post, which then supports a crown, bridge or denture.
Treatment Overview
What dental implants involves
A dental implant is a small post, usually titanium, placed into the jawbone to take the place of a missing tooth root. Once the surrounding bone has healed around it, the implant supports a crown, bridge or denture fixed on top.
Because the implant is anchored in bone rather than resting on the gum or clasped to neighbouring teeth, it functions independently of the teeth around it. Adjacent healthy teeth do not need to be reshaped to carry a bridge.
Implants are not suitable for everyone. Bone volume, gum health, general medical history and habits such as smoking all affect whether an implant is appropriate, which is why the assessment stage matters.
Who May Need It
Common reasons to consider this treatment
These are general indications, not a diagnosis. Only an examination can establish what is appropriate in your case.
- You have a missing tooth and would prefer a fixed replacement rather than a removable one.
- You are missing several teeth and want to avoid reshaping the healthy teeth on either side.
- An existing bridge or denture is loose, uncomfortable or no longer fitting well.
- A tooth is due for extraction and you want to plan the replacement in advance.
- You find a removable denture difficult to manage while eating or speaking.
Assessment
How Dr. Anshul evaluates your case
- Dr. Anshul examines the site, the neighbouring teeth and the condition of the gums, and reviews your general medical history.
- Imaging is used to check the height, width and quality of bone available, and the position of nearby structures such as nerves and sinuses.
- Where bone volume is limited, additional procedures may be discussed before an implant can be considered.
- The findings, the options and the reasons for the recommendation are explained before anything is planned.
Treatment Process
Step by step
A general sequence. Your own plan is confirmed after assessment.
-
Consultation and planning
Examination, imaging and a discussion of whether an implant is appropriate in your case, along with the alternatives.
-
Preparation if required
Any extraction, gum treatment or bone grafting needed to prepare the site is completed and allowed to heal first.
-
Implant placement
The implant post is placed into the bone under local anaesthetic. The procedure is carried out in the clinic and you return home the same day.
-
Healing period
The bone integrates with the implant over a period of months. A temporary restoration can often be provided during this time.
-
Fitting the restoration
Once healing is confirmed, impressions are taken and the final crown, bridge or denture is fitted and adjusted.
-
Review
A follow-up appointment checks the bite, the fit and the health of the surrounding gum.
Benefits
What this treatment can achieve
- Replaces a missing tooth without reshaping the healthy teeth beside it.
- Fixed in place, so it does not need to be removed for cleaning.
- Restores the ability to bite and chew on that side of the mouth.
- Helps maintain the space and alignment left by the missing tooth.
- Individual implants can be cleaned and flossed much like natural teeth.
Treatment Timeline
What to expect, generally
- Implant treatment is staged over several months rather than completed in one visit, because the bone needs time to heal around the post.
- A straightforward case commonly runs from around three to six months between placement and the final restoration.
- Cases needing extraction, grafting or gum treatment beforehand take longer.
- These are general expectations. Your own timeline depends on healing, bone quality and the specifics of your case, and is discussed at the planning stage.
Aftercare
Looking after your teeth afterwards
General guidance. You will be given instructions specific to your treatment.
- Follow the specific post-operative instructions given to you after placement.
- Keep the area clean as directed, and use any prescribed rinse or medication as instructed.
- Stick to softer foods and avoid chewing directly on the site while it heals.
- Avoid smoking, which affects healing around implants.
- Attend the review appointments so healing can be checked.
- Once restored, clean the implant daily and continue regular dental check-ups.
Questions
Dental Implants — common questions
Implant placement is carried out under local anaesthetic, so the area is numbed during the procedure. What to expect during and afterwards is explained to you beforehand.

No. Suitability depends on bone volume, gum health, general medical history and habits such as smoking. An assessment with imaging is needed before an implant can be recommended.
Implants are cleaned daily much like natural teeth, with brushing and cleaning between the teeth. Dr. Anshul will show you the technique that suits your restoration.
